Sarah Messmer, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and is board-certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, and addiction medicine. Dr. Messmer serves as the Medical Director of the UIC Community Outreach Intervention Projects (COIP) low-barrier substance use treatment/primary care programs, which provide care at COIP's harm reduction programs in Chicago. She is the clinical lead of the COIP Mobile Medications for Opioid Use Disorder program, which provides care via mobile units in Chicago neighborhoods with high overdose rates. Dr. Messmer's clinical work directly informs her research in implementation science. She is dedicated to studying implementation strategies to bring evidence-based addiction treatment into community-based settings. Her current research includes the development and implementation of low-barrier treatment programs in harm reduction and mobile treatment settings, including contingency management and MOUD.
